This is my latest Christmas poem :)

The Star

Jesus make me like that star

Your glory to convey

I'll draw them to your beauty

To see the king in hay

Jesus make me like that star

So beautifully placed

You set its path in heaven

To shine upon your face

Jesus make me like that star

That quietly shone bright

But called your name so loudly

And led kings to your light 

Jesus make me like that star

It had a part to play

Ignited by your presence

And in your sight to stay

Lord please make me like that star

So that because of you

I'll be a light in darkness

And hope of life renewed

I want to write a poem

That sets the wrong things right

To save the lost through rhythm

A rhyme that creates light

I want to paint a picture

Of hope that can't be lost

And joy that shines so brightly

It melts depressions frost

I want to sing a new song

A tune to defeat pain

A sound so full of boldness

That fear cannot remain

I want to make a necklace

That sparkles night and day

And cures the worlds diseases

As sickness dies away

I want to give a present

That shows you what you're worth

Of wealth to those with nothing

And peace in all the earth

I want to tell a story

Where death no longer wins

And people live in freedom

No one is lost to sin

But I am not the author

This story has been told

I have to trust His timing

And watch His plan unfold

Easter

Happy Easter everyone!

Sin and shame

On a tree

Curse of death

Removed from me

Gave His life

Took my place

Blood was spilt

God turned His face

Day turned black

Veil was torn

All earth shook

Hells gates were stormed

In the grave

Hope seemed lost

All for love

He bore the cost

Raised to life

Broke the chains

At Gods side

But scars remain

Made a way

From the start

Saved my soul

And won my heart

Another way

Free in truth

No more in chains

Free in life

From guilt and shame

Free to serve

And to obey

Free to choose

Another way

Free from me

And cursed no more

Free from death

And from the law

Free from lies

That hide within

Free in Christ

No more to sin

Free to sing

His praises out

Free to dance

To jump, to shout

The Risen One

Royals

So it's been a while! It turns out having a child is quite time consuming (who knew?) and I can only write when inspired. Anyway...

I was listening to the song Royals by Lorde a while ago and felt inspired to reword it. I'm not the worlds most capable vocalist so the lovely (and she's only 16!!) Rebekah Jones kindly recorded it for me. Here it is (the lyrics are below);

I wrote another poem in reflection of the word at church today. I'm certainly not as happy with it as the last one, and I'm not sure it captures the word brought. In my defence I was quite distracted :) Anyway here you have it...

You're called to rise, your flesh to tame

And germinate the seed

Your time has come to rule and reign

To follow Fathers lead

You're called to salt and light the earth

And make His kingdom come

To show the world His awesome worth

Your audience is one

You're called to set yourself apart

To clothe yourself in Him

To let God heal and prune your heart

And wash away your sin

You're called to worship Christ alone

To give no idol place

You're called to fall before His throne 

And seek his Holy face

You're called to this and so much more 

To change the world around

So let Him own you to the core

And let His love abound

The world alight

Today at church Alastair MB brought an awesome message. I asked God to give me a poem and this came as he spoke. It was written in 30mins and I believe God enabled me to write it (as there is no way I could hear a preach and write a poem at the same time alone!)

Jesus I truly want it all

In death you overcame the fall

But that's not all you died to do

You died to bring your kingdom too

Redeeming love that paid the cost

My mercy hanging from a cross

Red blood poured out is what was seen

Who could have known it washed me clean?

And now because I'm white as snow

Your power within me I can know

So fire from your throne pours forth

And tests my life to show it's worth

The flames are bright and create sparks

That flow and spread and ignite hearts

Through sparks the world will come alight

As Jesus sings in pure delight  

Free to worship

My heart sings, holy holy is your name

I can't contain your praises

Your spirit in me compels me to proclaim

You are the one who saves us

Without a doubt you're all I'll ever need

No one can take me from you

I live to worship as I let you lead

Made free so I can choose to

Beyond belief your sacrifice of love

The stars declare your glory from above

As I kneel in surrender

The chance to serve you, how could I resist

I feel no condemnation

I lose myself and problems disappear

So thankful that you love me

Worship

Worship is on my mind at the moment. Seems a good way to start the new year (albeit a bit late!)...

My heart beats so I can worship

It's what I'm made to do

To live a life of sacrifice

And love that honours you

Every time I start to worship

Another than your name

I can feel deep within me

My soul in so much pain

My mouth is filled with worship

But if my tongue was still 

Even stones would have to tell of 

Your journey to that hill

It's my privilege to worship

Because of who you are

To thank you that you let me see

My freedom in your scars

I will never cease to worship

In Heaven as on earth

Eternity is not enough

To tell of all your worth
